  • In my last blog, I discussed websites that are difficult to navigate, or make you hunt forever to get to what you are looking for. In this blog, I will discuss the importance of your website being pleasing to the eye.

    Along with your website being easy to navigate, you want your audience/customers to be able to read your website. This is very important, because not only is your website part of your businesses image, but it also should be easy to read and easy on the eyes.

    There are definitely color combinations that do not work well together and if you don't know what then you need to Google colors and find out what colors complement each other. I would also suggest that you have a couple of other people view your website before make your final decision. You want to make sure it looks good on the screen and present the image you want for your webpage and business.

    Color is not the only thing that can make your marketing material and website hard to read. Your choice of font type is another contributing factor. What you think may look good might not once you see in in print. The combination of color and font is what will make or break your marketing material and website. You might really want to use a particular background, but cannot find a color that will stand out. You, therefore, have two choices: pick a different background; or add some dimension to the font. Examples of this would be a slight shadow, or use the bold feature, or maybe even the glow feature on your font. Unless you are wanting to make a bold statement, or have the wording really stand out, you want these additional features to be very subtle. This will enable the wording stand out from the background.

    When picking your font, think about where you are going to use it and how. Is it going to be a heading, sub-heading? Do you want it to be eye-catching? Or, is it going to be the body of your material? Once you know where you are putting the font, then it's time to choose what font to use.

    It is alright to have some unusual fonts for headings, sub-headings or short sentences, but my suggestion is to choose the San-serif type fonts for the body of your work. Fonts such as Times New Roman, Helvetica, Arial, etc., are examples of easy to read fonts.

    If you follow these simple rules you should have an amazing looking website that people will enjoy viewing.
