Email Marketing…Is It Effective?
Is it too late to say Happy New Year? I can’t believe we are in 2022. Although the last two years have been nothing but crazy, to say the least, they have just flown by.
Businesses are still reeling for 2020 and 2021, whether is it recovering from lost revenue, or struggling to just keep the doors open. Now on top of all that, businesses are struggling to find employees. To say these last couple of years have been stressful on business owners is an enormous understatement. Businesses have had to not just think outside of the box, but way beyond the box and in some cases head in a completely different direction with their business.
Nobody knows what 2022 will bring, we can only do our best and push through and do whatever it takes to make it through. We need to think of ways to be supportive of each other’s business. Patronizing the local businesses should be first and foremost, but that is my opinion.
Remember when AOL first came out, back in the mid-1990s. There was probably no voice or phrase more recognizable, more powerful than “You’ve Got Mail.” It even made it into a blockbuster movie. I remember back then email was so new. “They” predicted the end of the US Postal Service, as email caught on. I remember getting so excited to get an email or to be able to send an email. It was so convenient and quicker than writing and sending a letter.
Like with everything, things evolve and pretty soon people found out ways how to utilize emails as a marketing tool. Whether it was to promote products, send a newsletter, or simply just keep in touch. Even these things evolved and pretty soon things like Constant Contact and MailChimp and others came round. Soon businesses could create email lists and send them to 100’s even thousands of people regularly. All of this had its time, place, and purpose.
Flash forward to the last 5 years or so, and now we are bombarded by emails. I don’t know about you, but I get 100’s of emails a day. Sure I could unsubscribe to them, but I’m afraid I might miss that one good deal. Instead, I end up deleting most of them daily. To me, emails have become the new junk mail we get in the US Mail. Because I get so many emails I rarely look at my emails, thus sometimes missing important emails that I need to be reading.
I don’t think I’m alone in feeling this way, so as the title of my blog states, Is Email Marketing Effective? I am sure there are some industries that it may work well in, but I think it is few and far between. Just think of your email(s). How many do you REALLY read? Personally, even though I sign up for email marketing, I rarely read any that I receive. It has to be a catchy subject for me to stop and read it. I think email marketing has reached its peak as being a useful marketing tool.
With Social Media, websites, and text messaging, any of those methods are more apt to get your audience’s attention than an email campaign. All of these methods are very effective, but I still firmly believe adding that personal touch, being genuine, and engaging with your clients is the most effective way to market your business. A quality website, a catchy logo, a regular presence on social media platform(s) is a much better use of your time and marketing budget.
Tell me what you think? Does email marketing work for you? Do you do email marketing? What marketing strategy is working best for you? I’d love to hear from you.
